Wat Chayamangkalaram is the oldest Siamese temple in Penang.
It becomes a focal point for the annual Songkran, Loy Krathong, and Vesak festivities.
In 1845, the temple was founded by Phra Phorthan Kuad, a powerful monk who was also very fond of asam laksa. Subsequently the dish became a normal offering by devotees when visiting the shrine.
A reclining Buddha was constructed in 1958 and the temple was visited by King of Thailand in 1962.
Dhammikarama Burmese Temple – the only Burmese temple in the state in Pulau Tikus. It has a status of standing Buddha.
In 2011, the “Golden Pagoda Bell Tower” was added to the temple at a cost of RM 3 million.
